The Blythewood Bengals defeated JL Mann 3-0 on Wednesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Blythewood pitchers struck out six, while Freeman sat down three.
The Bengals got on the board in the second inning. Michael Gregory drove in two when he tripled.
A single by Payne in the second inning was a positive for JL Mann.
Davis Wright pitched Blythewood to victory. He surrendered zero runs on four hits over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Kevin Steelman threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Freeman took the loss for JL Mann. He allowed four hits and three runs over six innings, striking out three.
Blythewood hit one home run on the day. Landon Lucas went for the long ball in the sixth inning.
Gregory went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Blythewood Bengals in hits.
JL Mann was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Graham had the most chances in the field with four.
Blythewood will host Dutch Fork in Game 1 of the best-of-three 5A State Championship series this Saturday,.
