Blythewood Bengals Varsity defeated Dutch Fork 2-1 on Saturday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at one in extra innings with Blythewood batting in the bottom of the ninth and Zach Bailes singled on a 1-0 count, scoring the winning run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Bengals’ pitchers struck out six, while Dutch Fork pitchers sat down four.
Blythewood Bgot things started in the first inning when Landon Lucas hit a solo homer over the left field wall.
Dutch Fork evened things up at one in the top of the second inning when Metts’s sac fly scored one.
Josh Cowan was the winning pitcher for Blythewood, lasting one and two-thirds innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out two and walking zero.
Hatcher took the loss for Dutch Fork. He went eight innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out four.
Lucas started the game for Blythewood on the mound. He lasted seven and a third innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out four and walking one.
The Bengals racked up seven hits on the day. Michael Gregory and Bailes each had two hits to lead Blythewood.
Blythewood will travel to Dutch Fork for the second game of the Best-of-Three series. The game will be Tuesday @ 7 p.m. Let’s plan to travel well and support our Bengals as they strive to bring home the 5A State Championship!
