Game Recap

The Blythewood boy’s lacrosse season concluded Tuesday night with a hard fought battle with Nation Ford. The game was exciting, high scoring and full of great action as both teams gave their all in front of a packed crowd. It just so happened to be Nations Ford’s night and the time ran out for the Bengal’s on their comeback. The night was punctuated with great play from All-State defensemen Pat Coyne and next year’s defensive captain Mark Dunkin, which literally played through the blood, sweat and tears. Both Christ Rodriguez and Gavin Vasquez dominated the face-off all night with tenacious playing. On the offensive end several Bengal players gave everything they had and were able to power the ball past Nations Ford’s All-State goalie. Justin Williams really put the team on his back, driving with relentless purpose scoring a season high of four goals. All-State midfielder Kadden Brown had another great night scoring three times and wreaking havoc on the opponent. Matt Clary, Cooper James and All-State attackman Landon Barrow also added to the Bengal total. Nation Ford will play in the championship this Saturday against the defending state champs Wando.

This was a historical season for the Bengals as this was farthest they have made in to the playoffs in school history. Reaching the final four is a major accomplishment, with over 40 teams playing lacrosse in South Carolina to be in the top four is a stellar feat. Blythewood will graduate 7 very talented seniors that have played a major role in this year’s team success, but with the fine group of rising players appear only to be getting stronger and better. Stay on the lookout for this team next year as they chase their goals.

Junior captain Matt Clary said after the game: “We’re just trying to keep our heads up all the way. We made history this year and we are going to let this loss spark a fire in all of us for next year. We are going to be okay because of these wonderful seniors who have prepared us and got us to this point and now we have to take it and run with it next year. We stumbled tonight, but that’s okay we’ve got the next one. We will be back”
