Blythewood – Blythewood High School graduate and NFL Pro-Bowl defensive back Justin Bethel will be at the Blythewood High School campus Friday, April 8 at 2 p.m. to present a check for $100,000 to the Blythewood High School Education Foundation.

Bethel was a starter on the inaugural varsity football team in 2006.  In his two years as a starter at Blythewood, Bethel led the team to a 24-1 overall record, including the 2006 AAA State Championship.  The 2006 team is believed to be the first team in history to win a state championship in their first year of varsity competition.  Bethel recorded 147 tackles in his 25 games at Blythewood and left the school as the leader in blocked kicks with five.  Bethel recorded a career-high 15 tackles and a blocked kick in the 2006 Upperstate Championship Game against Clinton High School.

Bethel graduated from Blythewood High School in 2008 and played for four seasons at Presbyterian College in Clinton. He was then drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft and has been tapped for the NFL Pro-Bowl for three consecutive seasons. He was recently awarded a three-year contract extension.

Bethel’s substantial gift will be used for various projects with specific designations for athletics and culinary arts, as Bethel was also a member of that program at BHS.

The check presentation ceremony will be held in the school’s large gym. Blythewood High School is located at 10901 Wilson Blvd. in Blythewood.  Members of the media are invited to attend.
